September is a special month in the world of health and wellness. As summer turns to fall, communities across the country join together to raise awareness for a wide range of important health topics. From celebrating healthy aging to supporting families affected by chronic illnesses, September offers many opportunities to learn, engage, and take action toward healthier lives.

Healthy Aging Month

September is recognized as Healthy Aging Month, a time to spotlight the positive aspects of growing older. It encourages older adults to take charge of their well-being through physical activity, balanced nutrition, preventive screenings, and staying socially connected. It also reminds families and caregivers of the value of supporting loved ones as they age.

National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

Childhood obesity is a growing concern that affects millions of children and teens in the U.S. This observance highlights the importance of encouraging healthy eating, promoting daily physical activity, and creating supportive environments at home, school, and in the community to help children thrive.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men. September provides an important reminder for men to speak with their healthcare providers about risk factors, screening options, and the value of early detection.

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

Ovarian cancer is often called the “silent disease” because symptoms may go unnoticed until later stages. September is dedicated to spreading awareness about the signs, risk factors, and the importance of early detection and research.

Sickle Cell Awareness Month

This observance focuses on increasing understanding of sickle cell disease, a genetic blood disorder that disproportionately affects African American and Hispanic communities. Education, advocacy, and research support are emphasized during this month.
